How to Prepare for a Prenup Photo Shoot

Prenuptial photo shoots are getting popular these days with the advent of technological advancements in photography. It is starting to find a niche as part of the wedding preparation. Once a friend changed his or her profile to engaged expect sooner or later to find yourself browsing through photos after photos featuring his/her love interest with the best views of beaches, wharfs, monuments, scenic backdrops and just about anything.

Our own prenup experiment at home. Haha! :)
As our wedding gets nearer, we decided not to forego with this tradition not because this is the IN thing, but because we wanted to test the extent of our cheesiness and check if we are photogenic enough to become models. Who knows? (Ahem, no violent reactions please)

Here are our two cents on the Prenup photo shoot preparation:

Step 1. Research

Yes, the event is not as simple as finding a location, photographer and posing your wackiest grin. This is your prenup, a photo session before your wedding that your future children and grandchildren will scrutinize and laugh at in the future. Your reputation is at risk here.

So for starters, browse the net on sample prenup pictures. This way, you can visualize if you and your partner can actually pull off a Game of Thrones inspired photo shoot or just stick with the usual kissing, hugging and HHWW stuffs. Go check Google Images and key in Prenuptial Photos, you might scream eureka just by browsing the pages. For additional tips, you can also check out this helpful guide

Step 2. Plan Your Theme

No matter how simple your planned prenup photo shoot would be, always have a personalized touch to it. This way you can brag to your future descendants how cool you are when you have the photographs taken. Think of a theme that you think would best depict you. Are you the adventurous kind of couple? Sporty couple? Nerdy couple? Weird couple? You can be avant-garde or traditional. You can be anything you want to be.

Most popular themes nowadays are all-white ensemble, themes related to hobbies, music, movies, and memorable places and events. Be creative in choosing your theme and visualize what you wanted to show or achieve.

Step 3. Find the Best Location

Steps 2 and 3 could either be interchanged depending on the couple’s priority. Sometimes, you choose the location first before your themes. In our case, we already have something in mind before choosing our location but we have it revised over and over again until we agreed on the final theme. See, it is not piece of cake children.

In choosing the best location, take note of the major issues you must agree.

a. Do you want a local or out of town photo session?
b. Do you have sufficient budget if you choose an out of town shoot?
c. Do you have enough time to prepare for your itinerary on an out of town shoot?
d. Does the location fit your themes?
e. Is it accessible to both you and your photographer?

The choice still relies on the couple whether to allot extra bucks for the photo shoot. If you are in Metro Manila, you can check out this link,

Step 4. Find your Photographer

Finding your photographer is no easy task. So try to go back to Step 1 and do some research. If you have been to a wedding expo or wedding fairs, you can actually score a free prenup photo shoot from up and coming wedding photographers. Sometimes it is included as part of the photo-video package on your wedding. It is necessary to at least know your photographer by checking out his portfolio. This way, you will know if his style matches your tastes.

Step 5. Decide on the Date

Prenup photo sessions are usually done months before the wedding so as not to conflict with your wedding preparations. In deciding the date, you should consider all the steps above at the same time answer the questions below.

This is the date of our wedding :)

a. Does it complement with your theme? Tip: In case you wanted a summery feel, you can’t book on a rainy day (but of course!).

b. Can you get the best out of your location on the said date? Tip: Don’t book during peak seasons if you are uncomfortable with bystanders staring at you if you push through with your Game of Thrones theme.

c. Is your photographer available? Tip: Ensure the schedule of your photographer before deciding on the date (hello?!).

d. Would the date fall under your make-up trial? Tip: To slash expenses for the photo shoot, date could be scheduled to coincide with the make-up trial. Make-up trials are included in the hair and make-up packages for the wedding.

Step 6. Find your stuffs

Prenup photo session is a once in a lifetime event but you can choose to splurge or be practical. In our case, we invested in some outfits that could be worn later and ended up borrowing those that we will not use again. We were glad to have found supportive friends who lent us some of the accessories and attires for our specific themes. After all, it will all boil down to the creativity of our photographer and of course our projection, poise, bearing and candidness. Wink!

On a serious note, you can check out for budget-friendly finds at Divisoria, Greenhills, and tyangge stores.

Step 7. Schedule an outfit rehearsal

If you can’t afford a stylist, you and your lovey should schedule a dress rehearsal to have an initial visualization of what you would look like on the photo shoot. Invite some fashionable friends to serve as critics. It will help increase your comfort level during the actual shoot.

Step 8. Find your make-up artist

This is an optional step in case the date of the prenup does not coincide with the make-up trial. If you have budget, you can spare some dough and book a professional make-up artist. If you have none, then opt to a more practical one by checking on the nearest salon in your decided location or better include it in your DIY (Do it yourself) list.

Step 9. Enjoy

Now that you are all set for the prenup photo session, don’t forget to enjoy planning the event with your other half. Every now and then don’t forget to ask suggestions especially if there are things he/she is not comfortable doing. Remember, once you are not in sync during the shoot it will surely show. So calm down those nerves if it would be your first time. Hold the hand of your partner and imagine how much you love each other through good and embarrassing times. Chill and have fun!
