Discovering Ilocandia Day 4: Conquering the North

Pagudpud Shoreline
Hello Pagudpud! It was great that we were greeted again by the searing sun. It was apt for some swimming and frolicking in the beach. Us ladies, clad in our usual swimwear attires geared up for some soaking in the clear waters and white sands.

After some swimming time, we checked out in Pagudpud at around 11 AM. We then went to see the Patapat Viaduct and Aqua Grande Picnic Park. The viaduct was one of a kind in structure. From there you can already see the northernmost part of the Luzon Island. Meanwhile, the water in the picnic park was really cold and was a complete contrast to the sun’s heat. It was a refreshing twist from the hot and long travel.

Our next destination was the Bantay Abot Cave, an adventure-filled site wherein you needed to cross the raging waters to get to the cave. We were permitted to set off provided a guide was to go with us. All of us were cautioned of the slippery rocks, strong waves and turbulent winds. Those of us who were able to cross were rewarded by the magnificent sight. At the back of the cave was the picturesque view of the rocks and sea but the best part of course was the thought of overcoming the odds to cross the shore and reach the cave.

Due to the super hot temperature, we weren’t able to come out of the van and stroll along the Blue Lagoon shoreline. But I got snaps of the beachfront.

After quite some traveling, we stopped by to eat lunch at the carenderia (canteen) near the Bangui market and went off to see the much awaited Kapurpurawan Rock Formations. Kapurpurawan means very white. We felt like transported to another world and dimension. The landscape was surreal. It was one of the best places I’ve ever went to.

We beat the clock to arrive in time in our next stop, the MalacaƱang of the North. This was the place of power during the reign of the Marcoses. The structure spoke much of the affluence of its time. There was a golf course overlooking the lake, swimming pool, spacious backyard, lavish rooms, beautiful terrace, paintings, antiques, old pictures and expensive looking furniture.

We headed to Paoay Church to rest and buy pasalubongs. Before we proceeded to Vigan, we have a quick trip to a place told to be part of the Sand Dunes.
